The Basics
Is Chosyn a legal service?
No. Chosyn doesn't create legal documents or replace a lawyer. What it does is help you organize and communicate the agreements you make with the people in your care circle — who's your emergency contact, who knows your wishes, who's agreed to what. If you need to formalize something legally (a healthcare proxy, for example), Chosyn can help you keep track of it, but it's not a substitute for that paperwork.
What does Chosyn actually do, day to day?
You build a care circle — the people you can call, and the people who can call you. You define what kind of support each relationship covers, set up care agreements so nobody's guessing, and update things as life changes. If you need more people, or different people, Chosyn helps you find others building the same kind of structure.
Who is this for?
Anyone whose "family" isn't just the people they're related to or married to — single people, chronically ill people, people estranged from family, people who've relocated away from their support systems. If your emergency contact is a friend, or your plus-one is whoever shows up, this is built with you in mind.
How is this different from a group chat or a shared calendar?
Group chats are great until someone needs to actually remember who agreed to what, or a new person needs to get up to speed fast. Chosyn makes those agreements visible and durable — so the structure doesn't depend on everyone's memory, or on you having to ask the same favor over and over.
Trust & Safety
Is Chosyn a dating app?
No — and this is worth saying plainly. Chosyn is care infrastructure. The people in your circle are there because you trust them with real things: your emergency contact, your pet, your 2am call. To protect that integrity, connections through the community feature are same-gender by default, every new user who wants to use that feature has a conversation with our team first, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for romantic solicitation. Anyone who misuses the platform is permanently removed. We built these guardrails in from the start because the trust this requires is not optional.
What if I don't want to meet strangers — or someone misuses my trust?
You never have to meet anyone new. Chosyn works just as well — maybe better — if you're using it purely to coordinate and formalize the circle you already have in real life. The community features are there if and when you want them, not a requirement.

As for trust: you are always in control of what you share and who sees it. You decide what each person in your circle can access — your care preferences, your emergency designation, your availability. No one sees anything you haven't explicitly shared with them. If someone violates the terms of a care agreement or misuses the platform, they are permanently removed. Chosyn is a trust-based community and we take that seriously.
Trust & Community
If I want to expand my circle, how does that work?
If you're using Chosyn with people you already know — inviting your existing circle — you don't need to do anything else. If you want to connect with new people, every user who wants to use that feature has a conversation with our team first. We're early enough that this is still a real conversation, not a formality, and that's intentional. Connections are same-gender by default, and the whole process is on your terms and timeline.
How do you make sure new connections are the right fit?
We're intentional and small-scale right now — you're not being paired with strangers at random. As Chosyn grows, we're building shared-context signals into how we introduce people, so you're connecting with someone who's genuinely navigating something similar to you. Think less "algorithm" and more "a friend who knows you both." Safety and trust are foundational to how we're building this, not an afterthought.
What if someone in my care circle doesn't follow through?
Chosyn makes agreements visible, which on its own changes behavior — it's harder to quietly drop something when it's written down and the other person can see it. That said, Chosyn can't force anyone to show up. What it can do is make it easier to notice when something isn't working, update your circle, and find people who are a better fit.
Where is Chosyn available?
We're currently in early access, building with a small group of people to get this right before opening more broadly.
How seriously do you take the risk of this being misused?
Very. Systems that document care relationships and emergency contacts could be misused if built carelessly — we know that, and we've built our governance and technical commitments around it from day one. We'll share more as that work matures.
Privacy & Cost
Is my information private?
Yes. We don't sell your data, full stop. The information you share — your care circle, your agreements, your needs — is yours, used only to make Chosyn work for you and to help connect you with the right people if you're looking for more.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
If you delete your account, your data is deleted with it. We don't retain it for any other purpose, and since we don't sell data, there's nothing else it's being used for in the meantime.
Is there a cost?
Chosyn is free for individuals — always. The institutional model is how we sustain that.

Healthcare systems, employers, and organizations can pay to access Chosyn's aggregate outcomes data — research-grade information about how chosen family networks affect health, wellbeing, and care coordination at a population level. That data is never personal. Institutions never see your name, your circle, your agreements, or anything identifiable about you.
